As NSSTA celebrates its 40th anniversary, there’s one powerful thread that runs through every legislative victory, policy protection, and federal conversation we’ve had: your voice.
And that voice is heard, clearly and consistently, because of the NSSTA Political Action Committee (PAC).
What is the NSSTA PAC?
The PAC is NSSTA’s non-dues-funded advocacy arm. It exists solely to ensure that structured settlements remain protected, promoted, and understood in Congress. It gives our industry a seat at the table when federal decisions are being made, especially those that impact IRC §104(a)(2), §130, workers’ compensation, and tax treatment of claimants’ benefits.
Every dollar contributed to the PAC is a voluntary investment by members who believe in protecting the integrity of structured settlements for generations to come.
Four Decades of Advocacy Power
Over the past 40 years, the PAC has:
- -- Educated Members of Congress about structured settlements’ role in securing long-term financial stability for injury victims
- -- Protected key tax code provisions from repeal or limitation
Supported policymakers who align with NSSTA’s mission and understand the needs of injury victims - -- Helped secure passage of critical legislation, including the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 and the 2001 Structured Settlement Protection Act
- -- Enabled NSSTA members to meet face-to-face with lawmakers during fly-ins and Hill visits
Without this level of access, our policy goals would be far more vulnerable. With it, we’ve held the line on what matters most.
Real-World Results: A 2024 Milestone
It’s no coincidence that in 2024, the industry reached its highest-ever structured settlement annuity premium total. $9.481 billion. That kind of trust and stability doesn’t happen without policy continuity and advocacy strength.
The PAC has been essential in maintaining that policy environment.
Where Your Voice Goes in 2025 and Beyond
Every contribution to the PAC goes toward:
- -- Supporting Congressional candidates who understand and support structured settlements
- -- Building long-term relationships with policymakers
- -- Ensuring structured settlements are protected in any future tax reform proposals
- -- Keeping the unique benefits of §104(a)(2) and §130 top-of-mind on Capitol Hill
PAC participation isn’t just about politics; it’s about protecting the people we serve.
Strengthening Advocacy: The Congressional Connect Campaign
The impact of the NSSTA PAC isn’t just about contributions, it’s about conversations.
Through initiatives like the Congressional Connect Campaign, NSSTA members take that advocacy directly to Capitol Hill. During these coordinated efforts, members meet one-on-one with lawmakers to explain the real-life value of structured settlements and the importance of protecting key tax code provisions like IRC §104(a)(2) and §130.
In 2024, NSSTA Board and PAC leaders met with more than a dozen Members of Congress during the campaign, reinforcing the industry's role in delivering long-term financial stability for injury victims.
These efforts, made possible in part by PAC support, are how we turn influence into action and education into policy protection.
